Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors

Announcements

Britney Anderson, Northwestern University won the EMRA award to attend the CORD conference in Las Vegas. We were extremely pleased to have almost 40 residents attend this year's Academic Assembly. EMRA contributed a few lectures to the Navigating Track on leadership, getting involved on a national level, pursuing a fellowship, and preparing yourself for a career in academics. We encourage program directors to send their residents to next year's conference in Orlando to get some exposure to academics, mentors, inspiring speakers, and other residents that have similar career interests.

EMRA has started a new resident-medical student mentorship. We are hoping to provide some perspective on life as an emergency resident, factors that helped us decide on a career in emergency medicine, advice for 4th year of medical school to prepare for internship, etc. It is meant as an adjunct to SAEM's Virtual Advisor Program to provide an additional resource to students, particularly those who attend medical schools without an affiliated EM residency program.

A new Chief Resident's Guide will be available for purchase in July 2006. It was created by 2 former chief residents and peer reviewed at the University of North Carolina. It is the first document that provides guidance on the roles and responsibilities of a chief resident, specific for emergency medicine. We have also created a Spanish Guide for PDA to assist with medical Spanish translation that will be available for purchase.
