Institution: Cooper Medical School of Rowan University

Current Title: Associate Program Director, CMSRU EM Subspecialty Advisor

Reasons for wanting to join the CORD Board of Directors & Opinions and Priorities for the Board: When I attended the Student Advising Task Force meeting at my first CORD Academic Assembly in 2014, I felt like I had found “my people.”  I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to become actively involved in CORD from that very first day and I haven’t stopped since!  I am grateful for the opportunities that CORD has given me and proud of the work I have done as both a member and leader within the CORD Advising Students Committee in EM (ASC-EM), Application Process Improvement Committee (APIC), eSLOE Committee, and as one of EM’s two representatives on the Supplemental Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) Evaluation Working Group and the AAMC ERAS Content Refresh Working Group.  I would love to bring my passion and collaborative skills to the CORD community on an even larger scale.  At a time when emergency medicine has experienced two recent unprecedented match seasons, it is important for the Board of Directors to comprise individuals who have a pulse on the residency application and match process and who are well connected with the larger UME/GME communities.  I believe I am one of those individuals as well as someone with the talent and desire to continue to grow and better our organization.  I would be thrilled for the opportunity to serve our CORD community as a Member-At-Large for the CORD Board of Directors.  Thank you for your consideration.

Previous CORD Experience: I became involved with CORD’s Student Advising Task Force in 2015 and helped transition the task force into an official CORD committee (The Advising Students Committee in EM, or ASC-EM) in 2018, when I served as Chair. During my time as Chair, ASC-EM worked closely with EMRA to create the first edition of the “EMRA and CORD Student Advising Guide.” I joined the Application Process Improvement Task Force (now the Application Process Improvement Committee, or APIC) in 2017, serving as chair from 2021-2022. I am still actively involved in both committees and lead APIC’s Program Signaling & ERAS Working Groups. Through these working groups, I have helped implement program signaling and the new ERAS application into the residency application process within EM. I joined the CORD Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) Committee in 2021, contributing to the creation of the eSLOE 2.0, and am now the co-chair of this committee.

History of Program Leadership Experience:  I was Co-Clerkship Director for the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) EM clerkship from 2014-2019. I was Assistant Program Director for the Cooper University Hospital EM residency from 2017-2021. I currently serve as Associate PD since 2021 as well as CMSRU EM Subspecialty Advisor since 2020.

Leadership Experience: In addition to my program leadership experience (above), I have held other leadership positions within my department and institution (Clinical Competency Committee Chair; faculty chair for our residency’s Social Media, Wellness, and Community Service Committees; course director for several courses through CMSRU, etc). I have also held national leadership positions within CORD, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) (see below).

Knowledge or experience with large/complex organizations or other non-profits beyond CORD: I have been a member of SAEM since 2011, serving on their Program Committee from 2014-2017 and as Chair of their Medical Student Ambassador Committee from 2015-2017. I have also been an active member of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) in the past. I have been working closely with the AAMC over the past two years as one of EM’s two representatives on the Supplemental Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) Evaluation Working Group and the AAMC ERAS Content Refresh Working Group. In my roles through CORD Committees, I have also worked closely with leadership from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), Thalamus GME, Altus Assessments (now Acuity Insights), SAEM’s Clerkship Directors in EM (CDEM), EMRA, American Academy of Emergency Medicine Resident and Student Association (AAEM-RSA), and SAEM-Residents and Medical Students (SAEM-RAMS).
