Institution: ECU Health Medical Center

Current Title: Residency Program Director, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine

Reasons for wanting to join the CORD Board of Directors & Opinions and Priorities for the Board: My first experience with CORD was during residency, as the recipient of an EMRA Scholarship to attend the 2014 CORD Academic Assembly and I have been involved with the organization ever since.  I have had the opportunity to participate in groups such as the DEI and Education committees throughout the years, serve as a speaker at the Academic Assembly, be a leader in the CORD Residency Administration Fellowship and represent CORD to the ACGME Equity Matters program.

In my role of APD, I depended upon CORD for guidance on how to navigate a new leadership position, engage our residents, and learn the world of scholarly productivity in education.  It was the membership of CORD that supported me when I took on the role of PD just prior to the pandemic and helped me to navigate the waters associated with that. In my work through SAEM, I've learned how to advocate in large organizations while respecting the structure and membership of the group, manage a large budget, and coordinate large groups of people towards a central goal, all of which will help me with the role of Member-At-Large. CORD brought me a network of similarly minded individuals, who are dedicated to education and our learners. I would like to join the Board of Directors as a Member-At-Large to help others have the same amazing experience and sense of community that CORD has brought me.

Special Skills, talents, perspectives that you would like to share: Mentorship - mentored several pre-medical students, medical students, and residents successfully into medical school, the programs of their choice, or attending positions. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - completed the Equity Matters program with the ACGME (in two cohorts, both with CORD/OPDA and as an individual).

Previous CORD Experience: Course Facilitator and Coordinator for the CORD Residency Administration Fellowship (2022 - present), CORD Representative to the OPDA Cohort of ACGME Equity Matters (2021-2022), Simulation Community of Practice (2020 - present), Residency Administration Fellowship participant (2020-2021), Diversity & Inclusion Committee (2019-present), Diversity & Inclusion Task Force (2018-2019), Education Committee (2018 - present), CORD/ACEP Teaching Fellowship participant (2017-2018)

History of Program Leadership Experience: Since graduating from residency as the Education Chief Resident at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center, I have had the pleasure of serving as the Assistant Program Director, Associate Program Director, and now the Program Director at ECU Health Medical Center. I have also been involved in the Program Evaluation Committee and the Clinical Competency Committee of our program for the last 8 years.

Leadership Experience: Education Chief Resident, SUNY Downstate (2013-2014), Vice Chair of Diversity and Inclusion, East Carolina University (2015-present), Assistant Residency Director, East Carolina University (2015-2016), Associate Residency Director, East Carolina University (2016-2019), Residency Program Director, East Carolina University (2019-present), Member-At-Large, SAEM Academy for Diversity & Inclusion in EM (ADIEM) (2020-2021), Secretary-Treasurer, SAEM ADIEM (2021-2022), President-Elect, SAEM ADIEM (2022-2023), President, SAEM ADIEM (2023-2024)

Knowledge or experience with large/complex organizations or other non-profits beyond CORD: As an EM educator, I have been very involved with the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) both on committees and in academies. I have served on several task forces for the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM) and the Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine (ADIEM). With my passion for diversity and inclusion, I have been heavily involved with the leadership of ADIEM, as a member of the executive board since 2020, serving as Member-At-Large, Secretary-Treasurer, President-Elect, and now President. For the past 5 years, I have served on the Membership Committee for SAEM, as well as the Faculty Development Committee, in an effort to augment and assess membership participation in the organization and to help our faculty become stronger, more comfortable educators. Through these commitments, I've learned how to advocate in large organizations while respecting the structure and membership of the group, managing a large budget, and coordinating large groups of people toward a central goal.
