Reasons for wanting to join the CORD Board of Directors & Opinions and Priorities for the Board: Over my years involved in medical education I have grown to see immense value in the medical education community in Emergency Medicine. In my involvement with CORD and Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine(CDEM) the connections that I have made, ultimately helped me develop my career, my support system and my why in the field of EM. I have had the opportunity to be a leader on the CORD/CDEM SLOE committee, a collaborative effort between UME and GME educators. This committee has led to advancements in standardized letters with a goal of improving the process for letter writers, letter readers and medical students.
Although my CV reads with a more UME focus, my role as course leader for the capstone course for graduating medical students at JHUSOM has placed me with significant knowledge of the challenges that face all learner groups and the faculty that work tirelessly to educate them. As a leader on the CDEM board I now have a better understanding of the ability of a BOD to unite an organization and develop the mission and culture of a group. I would love to serve as Member at Large on the CORD BOD to further develop my own leadership skills, but also to make a difference in an organization. I want CORD to be a place where all EM educators feel welcome and excited to get involved.
