Protecting Safe and Stable Training Environments

CORD is aware of the recent situation involving the detention of Dr. Rubeliz Bolivar, a first-year emergency medicine resident physician at the South Texas Health System. This event raises significant concern across our community due to its profound implications for trainee well-being, the learning environment, the stability of clinical education programs, and the program leaders who must navigate these challenges.

CORD supports the ability of all trainees who have met legal requirements to pursue their training in safe and stable environments, without fear of unexpected disruption.

CORD is committed to supporting residency and fellowship programs in fostering safe, inclusive, and supportive training environments. To better understand the impact of situations like this and to share collective knowledge, CORD will be soliciting member input through a survey focused on experiences with trainee visa-related challenges, how programs have addressed issues, and resource recommendations.

During times of uncertainty, our strength lies in our collective commitment to one another and to our trainees. CORD will continue to stand with our community by promoting connection, sharing practical solutions, and advocating for the environments our learners and programs need to thrive.
