Emergency Medicine Leaders Seek Update on ACGME Review Process

A letter has recently been submitted to ACGME leadership and signed by several leading emergency medicine organizations regarding the proposed revisions to the Emergency Medicine Program Requirements.

As our specialty prepares for another residency recruitment and application season, the letter highlights the importance of greater transparency regarding the review process, anticipated timeline, and next steps under consideration by the ACGME. Clear communication is critical for residency programs, faculty, trainees, and medical students as they make decisions related to curriculum planning, recruitment, educational experiences, and career development.

While recognizing the complexity and importance of the ACGME’s deliberations, the undersigned organizations have respectfully requested additional clarity regarding the anticipated timeframe for a final determination and any remaining steps in the review process.

We encourage you to review the letter below.

Thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to emergency medicine education.
