The purpose of this community of practice is to advance emergency medicine education by providing and disseminating a strong foundation of simulation based medical education.

Members will be able to share ideas and learn about best practices in simulation based medical education.  This COP will provide opportunities to network and collaborate with simulationists, new and old. Need help? We welcome CORD members to reach out with questions, ideas, and support with their department and hospital-based simulation programs!

Goals & Objectives:

Our goals for the upcoming academic year include advancing simulation scholarship and leadership, supporting faculty development for both novice and experienced simulation educators, expanding and innovating procedural and assessment tools, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and exploring the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and extended reality into simulation. These objectives directly address the ongoing needs of the CORD community by promoting high-impact educational strategies, preparing faculty to thrive in evolving assessment landscapes, and equipping educators with modern tools to support learner competency and patient safety. By investing in faculty and simulation-based initiatives, we aim to improve residency training programs nationwide in alignment with CORD’s mission to promote excellence in EM education.To provide simulation related education to the CORD community.

Active Projects/ Initiatives

  1. Piloting a simulation-based curriculum to prepare EM residents for the updated ABEM oral board exam format, currently in beta testing.
  2. Developing a just-in-time procedural skills database to support rapid, point-of-care refreshers for EM educators and learners.
  3. Conducting a scholarly project focused on competency-based education and procedural skill completion in simulation-based training.
  4. Launching new initiatives exploring the use of artificial intelligence in simulation to support emerging technology integration.
  5. Preparing multiple national conference submissions (IMSH, AAEM, CORD) spanning faculty development, interdisciplinary training, debriefing for non-simulation faculty, and innovative approaches beyond traditional manikin-based simulation.
